What is Hydrogen Peroxide?

A mild antiseptic agent made up of two hydrogen atoms and two oxygen atoms is called hydrogen peroxide. When hydrogen peroxide is applied to affected areas, it causes foaming action. The blood and most living cells contain theidase catalase, which attacks hydrogen peroxide and converts it into water and oxygen.

The oxygen free radicals have a negative charge that interacts with pathogens and damages their cell walls. This helps to destroy bacteria, clean areas, and remove dead skin cells. Your white blood cells make and use hydrogen peroxide to fight bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other pathogens.

Hydrogen peroxide is an accepted, safe, and affordable Disinfectant for surfaces, cuts, scrapes, burns, and minor wounds. It may be beneficial to use a mouth rinse to help relieve canker sores, gingivitis, and other minor mouth irritations. It is possible that hydrogen peroxide may be beneficial for your respiratory health.

The friendlybacteria in your lungs, nose, mouth, and urinary tract thrive in environments that are rich in oxygen. These friendlybacteria may thrive if hydrogen peroxide is high in oxygen, but they may die from harmful pathogens.

Hidden Epidemic, a book by Dr. Thomas Levy published by MedFox Publishing in 2017, discusses the role of hydrogen peroxide in acute viral respiratory infections (1). Following the infection, your oral and nasal cavities stay in a low-grade infectious state with a biofilm of disease-causing colonies of viruses. 

As a result, they may persist chronically in your oral cavity, such as your tonsils. As pathogens get swallowed, the ongoing infection may also compromise the health of your gut, teeth, and gums. This may lead to ongoing oxidative stress in your gut and leaky gut syndrome. Dr. Levy argues that nebulizing hydrogen may be a way to tackle these infections.

Doctors Using Nebulized Hydrogen Peroxide 

In the 1940s, the interest in the benefit of hydrogen peroxide declined as prescription medications became more popular. Increased attention has been given to hydrogen peroxide and nebulizing. Dr. Levy and Dr. Mercola are both recommenders of nebulizing hydrogen peroxide.

Dr. Mercola recommends starting nebulizing with hydrogen peroxide the same day as you notice a respiratory infection coming on (2). He believes that nebulizing with hydrogen peroxide can be an effective mono treatment. However, adding vitamin D, zinc, and quercetin may be highly beneficial. 

It is important to focus early on and do it for 5–15 minutes at a time every waking hour because nemulizing H202 loses its effectiveness as the respiratory infections gets worse. You can do it every 4 to 6 hours until you feel completely healed. The goal is to stop the virus before it enters the lungs, where it can cause serious inflammation and lead to serious illness.

Dr. Levy has written extensively, including in his book, about nebulizing hydrogen peroxide for respiratory issues (3). He explains that nebulizing hydrogen peroxide may help to break down and inactivate viruses. He recommends daily treatments several times a day until a few days after you feel completely normal. He believes that nebulizing hydrogen peroxide may also be a great preventative strategy.

Dr. David Brownstein also recommends nebulizing with hydrogen peroxide in a scientific article published by the The Institute for Pure and Applied Knowledge and the Public Health Policy Inititiative are related. in 2020 (4). According to this observational case series, nebulizing a hydrogen peroxide/saline mix with Lugol’s iodine seemed effective for respiratory infections. In this case series, patients received individualized treatment, and some were treated with intravenous hydrogen peroxide, vitamin C solutions, and/or intramuscular ozone.

Improved Respiratory Health

One of the main benefits of nebulizing hydrogen peroxides is improved respiratory health. A 1996 study published in Respiratory medicine deals with the respiratory system. found that nebulizing may be an effective therapy for respiratory and lung health (5). A 2020 review published in Medical Hypothesis found that hydrogen peroxide may be beneficial for viral infections (6).

Reduced Oral Pathogens

Nebulizing hydrogen peroxide may also help to reduce oral pathogens. A 1995 review published in the The journal deals with periodontology. found that hydrogen peroxide may help to reduce plaque and gingivitis (7). A 2016 study published in the The Journal of the International Society of Prevention and Community Dentistry.  found that hydrogen peroxide may help to reduce gingivitis in periodontist patients (8).

There have been a number of recent studies on the potential benefits of nebulized hydrogen peroxide. A 2016 study published in Environmental and food related illnesses.  found that nebulizing hydrogen peroxide may be beneficial for various respiratory infections (11). A 2020 review published in Medical Hypothesis found that hydrogen peroxide may be helpful for viral infections (6)

According to a 2020 article published in Hospital Epidemiology and Infection Control.  said that using nebulized hydrogen peroxide may help to reduce the hospitalization rate related to respiratory infections (12). A 2021 case series published in There is evidence based on alternative medicine. found that nebulizing with hydrogen peroxide may be a beneficial option for respiratory infections (13).

How to Use Nebulized Hydrogen Peroxide 

To get started with nebulizing with hydrogen peroxide, I recommend this Desktop Nebulizer. It’s important that you always use food-grade hydrogen peroxide. I recommend this Essential Oxygen Food Grade Natual Hydrogen Peroxide.

I recommend you make your own saline solution using the following instructions. You may also choose to purchase a quality saline solution, such as Modudose Saline Solution for Inhalation, but remember these come in 5mL so you need 47 doses to make it equal to 8 oz. It comes in 100 per box.

How to Make Saline Solution

  • 8 ounces of water should be in the jar. It’s important that you don’t drink tap water, it’s only for purification.

  • Adding Himalayan Salt, Celtic Salt, or Real Salt to the mix will make it better.

  • Stir to dissolve.

How to Prepare Hydrogen Peroxide for Nebulizing

  • Add 2% of food-grade.

    Modudose Saline Solution for Inhalation

    There is a problem. If you are starting with 12% hydrogen peroxide, you need to add a small amount of water to 8 ounces.

  • Transfer this mix to a glass container.

  • You can keep this solution refrigerated for a long time, so I recommend labeling your bottle or jar.

How to Set Up Your Nebulizer

  • Carefully reading the instructions of your nebulizer is what I recommend.

  • The tubing needs to be connected to it.

  • If you put 2–3 mL into the nebulizer medicine container, it will give you about 1/2 of your hydrogen peroxide and saline solution.

  • When you breathe in the solution, the mask should be put on.

You should start nebulizing with hydrogen peroxide if you start to feel unwell. You can use it for 5 to 15 minutes every hour. Within the first day, you might feel better. nebulizing should be reduced to every four to six hours until you are completely recovered.

Additional Options

nebulizing hydrogen peroxide is one of the substances that you can try to support your respiratory health naturally. The Brownstein protocol involves nebulizing silver and glutathione.

Brownstein Protocol 

You may benefit from the Brownstein Protocol by Dr. David Brownstein for respiratory health. Dr. David Brownstein also recommends nebulizing with hydrogen peroxide in a scientific article published (4).

In an observational case series by the The Institute for Pure and Applied Knowledge and the Public Health Policy Inititiative are related. in 2020, Dr. Brownstein and his team found that nebulizing a hydrogen peroxide/saline mix with 2 drops of 2% Lugol’s iodine. If you feel fine with that you can increase your dosage to 5–6 drops of the iodine.

The Lugol’s has potassium iodine and I personally recommend using a pure nascent iodine instead. So I prefer doing 3–6 drops of a nascent iodine such as Detoxadine Iodine to your hydrogen peroxide solution.

Nebulized Silver

You may also benefit from nebulizing colloidal or nano silver for respiratory issues. A 2008 study published in the The Royal Society of Medicine publishes a journal. found that colloidal silver may be beneficial for lung health (14). A 2021 animal study published in the The Journal of equine veterinary science is published.  found that colloidal silver may be helpful for respiratory bacterial infections (15).

Follow the directions for nebulizing with colloidal silver.

  • The medicine cup should be filled with a non-diluted silver up to the 2 liter mark.

    I recommend using

    Silver Spray

    It’s for silver with a diameter of less than 1 millimeter. The particles of homemade silver are too large to use.

  • Follow the directions of your nebulizer when you put the mask on. Hold it in for a second, then exhale.

  • If you have an acute infection, I would recommend 6 to 7 minutes 3 to 5 times a day. For prevention, use it for about 6 to 7 minutes each session. If you are using it for lung regeneration, you should start with a single day a week.

Nebulized Glutathione 

You may also benefit from nebulizing with glutathione for respiratory health. Glutathione is an antioxidant that can help to reduce cellular damage. A 2000 case report published in There are reviews of alternative medicine. found that nebulizing glutathione may be helpful for emphysema (16). A 2005 study published in Radical biology and medicine are free.  found that nebulizing glutathione may be beneficial for lung health (17)

A 2008 study published in There is evidence based on alternative medicine.  found that nebulized or aerosolized glutathione can benefit respiratory and lung problems (18). A 2015 study published in the There is a journal about cystic Fibrosis.  found that nebulized glutathione may be beneficial for lung health (19). Glutathione can be especially good for helping to improve chronic lung diseases. 

Follow the directions for nebulizing with glutathione.

  • Make sure to set up your nebulizer according to the instructions.

  • I recommend using

    Reduced L-Glutathione Plus

    for nebulizing.

  • One capsule of glutathione can be broken. The capsule needs to be put into the medicine cup. Add about 1 to 5 liters of pure distilled water or saline solution. Until the solution looks clear, allow it to sit for a while.

  • When ready, put the mouth piece on and start inhaling. The treatment of one capsule takes about 4 minutes.
