The Olivery: A Smart Olive Oil Bottle and Refill System

The Olivery: A Smart Olive Oil Bottle and Refill System

You will be tempted to stop reading if I explain the Olivery. On the surface at least, Olivery sounds pretty neat.

The Olivery is a bottle and refill system. This is where you will want to stop reading because of another device. The glass used to make the bottle helps the oil stay fresh for longer.

Our bottle is made from a special type of glass that reflects light very well. The engineering agency Miron in Switzerland did research into the effects of light on glass. They found that violet and IR causes fruit and veg to oxidize and slow down the aging process. Miron helped us make a bottle that blocks all colors. Your Olivery oil can last up to six months best beverage coolers with this special black glass.

That is pretty cool. The base of the bottle has an indicator that tells you when you are running out of oil. Once you have used up 80 percent of the oil, a chip in the bottle will communicate with the oLi mobile app on your phone to order more. There are plenty of companies working on auto-re filling, but what is interesting is how Olivery ships its refill.

Olivery sells replacement olive oil in small plastic pouches that can fit through a mail slot for easy shipping instead of sending you a whole new bottle. Just pour the pouch into your Olivery bottle once you receive it.

Olivery says the extra virgin olive oil is made from cold pressed olives. The Gargano National Park is a protected nature reserve.

The people behind Olivery want to raise $40,000 to fund the campaign and produce the first 1,000 bottles. A starter kit that includes a bottle and refill of oil is available for 49. The packs will cost $12. The Olivery people told me that they were shipping to Europe and Canada.

This is the second startup we have written about in the last three months that wants to improve the olive oil experience. Olive X-Press fully funded its own campaign for a countertop olive oil press. According to the company behind the X-Press, there is a $10 billion market for olive oil.

If you want something that will last you a few weeks, you should buy an olive oil bottle. It may seem steep to pay $60 for a bottle of olive oil. If the oil is good and the shipping cost is not too high, the Olivery might be useful.
